What Happened to Ip Mans Second Child in the Movie

Yip Man 3 (2015) Poster

A lesser third picture show, only however packed with great action

IP MAN three is the belated last instalment of the true story trilogy. It features the famous Wing Chun proponent and his wife in their later on years, living quiet lives in Hong Kong until a ruthless belongings programmer earmarks their son'south school for demolition, at which point Ip Man steps into the fray to sort things out.

This third movie isn't equally good as the two predecessors, but that'southward not to say it'southward non entertaining. In fact, it's very entertaining indeed, and filled with the kind of expertly-choreographed action (thanks, Yuen Woo-ping!) that made the start two films so good in the first place. Donnie Yen returns to the role he fabricated his own and once again plays it restrained to great effect.

IP Human iii isn't perfect past any means. There's a little too much family background stuff, including a sub-plot that all only dominates the final quarter of the movie, making it slow when it should be exciting. I tin empathise its importance, just it feels out of identify in what is in all other respects a straightforward fight flick. Still, there's so much swell action elsewhere that it's hard to complain, and the spectacle of seeing Yen going upward confronting Mike Tyson is impossible to resist.

More Yip Human

I practice wonder if Yip Human being 4 will really be the last. After the "initial" trilogy (not even sure that was planned), the prequel (Nix), some spinoffs (by and large inoffical as far every bit I know) and last years fourth installment ... I mean who knows, correct? I have not seen last years film, just I will do so for sure. Large fan of Donnie Yens and I reckon anyone who likes Martial Arts knows what I mean.

Having said all that, we go along the path of Bruce Lees teacher. Though Bruce Lee had a dissimilar name ... one that is being used hither, when we run into him (the actor portraying him that is of course) at the showtime of this movie visiting Yip Man. You may see a similarity in his looks - the casting was quite spot on hither. But the film one time again does non circumduct around the teachings of Bruce Lee. This is just a short episode, before we get to the meat of things. A group of bad guys trying to take over a school. Their leader? Mike Tyson - a mixed handbag of beans I think is what some would telephone call it.

Which brings u.s. to the fights. As can be expected very well fabricated and thought out. So far this was my personal favorite ... fifty-fifty if the Sammo Hung fight in part ii may be my personal favorite when it comes to fights overall. The story hither I think worked best. Straight forwards and quite the overnice step to information technology as well. Everything is subjective of grade every bit you know

"The world doesn't belong to the rich, or even the powerful, but to those of pure heart."

Alarm: Spoilers

I've seen the first two 'Ip Man' films with Donnie Chen in the championship role, so with that said, this story felt like more of the aforementioned. What I mean is, in that location's an antagonist set up to challenge the Wing Chun master, and the fighting somewhen involves a street brawl in which Ip Human being takes on a veritable oversupply of martial artists without too much of a trouble. That takes realism right out of the story for me, as the mechanics of something similar that are well most incommunicable. Interestingly, Ip Human being has ii principle foes in the story, a thug who terrorizes the local school with his band of rowdies, and an aspiring Wing Chun master who wants to show his superiority over Ip Human. The get-go is dispatched rather handily by his own boss, portrayed by old boxer Mike Tyson in a office in which he seems a flake out of his element. What's somewhat different in this story is the focus on Ip Human being's personal life and relationship with his married woman and son. When he learns of Madame Ip's (Lynn Xiong ) cancer, Ip Human being retreats from his duties at the schoolhouse and spends more quality time with her, ignoring a claiming match with Cheung Tin-chi (Jin Zhang). The nearly impressive physical confrontation in the film for me was the broad-pocketknife fight between Ip homo and Cheung, brought on by Madame Ip's secretly placed message to Cheung's son. It was convincingly well choreographed and looked incredibly dangerous, if in fact real weapons were beingness used. The picture ends on a somber note with the death of Madame Ip succumbing to her affliction, thereby inserting some pathos to the career of the man recognized equally the Primary of Wing Chun way.

Fourth dimension to make a stand...

A 3rd delve into the legend of Ip Man. And I volition say that they managed to continue the third moving-picture show up to level with the previous two movies, and that was an achievement in itself.

The story here revolves around a property developer and his gangsters trying to claim a local school, and Master Ip Man takes it upon himself to stand up to them.

Donnie Yen makes a tertiary and glorious return as Ip Man, and he does and then once again with flying colors. He really was cast so well for this particular role, especially because he is capable of combining acting and martial arts with grace.

Similar to the previous ii movies, and then "Ip Man three" is loaded with martial arts throughout the course of the movie. And the martial arts in this third movie was done with not bad skill, it was graceful and visually impressive to look at. It was nicely choreographed and equally so executed by the martial artists on the screen. There are some very memorable martial arts scenes throughout this film, as there has been in the previous 2, but the lift scene was specially interesting.

The bandage in "Ip Man three" was adept, although I personally didn't like that they had Mike Tyson in the movie. Sure he might throw a powerful punch, but he doesn't accept acting talent nor much on-screen entreatment. Then I retrieve they could have fared better with a different cast for the office of Frank.

It was also a nice bear on to see a young Bruce Lee make an appearance in the pic, seeking to study with Primary Ip Human. And actor Kwok-Kwan Chan did a good task, although it was a bit over-acted in a way. But it was fun, still.

The 2015 "Ip Man 3" movie is a definite must lookout man movie if you enjoy martial arts, and specially so if yous enjoyed the previous ii "Ip Man" movies from 2008 and 2010.

It's not a grand finale, but it'due south alright

Alarm: Spoilers

Although this finale to this kung fu trilogy is a bit disappointing. Mainly because the narrative with multiple subplots aren't edited very well. Considering of the poor pacing, which makes information technology actually forced at times and past the numbers. It'southward similar they came up with a bunch of ideas for subplots and decided to make a movie out of it, unfortunately it isn't mixed together very well. It isn't terrible, simply it just doesn't seem all that coherent at times which might cause confusion. The outset "Ip Man" movie was inspiring, because it's about continuing up for yourself and going up against bullies. The 2nd one was pure kung-fu entertainment and it shows what Ip Human being is capable of. This third one tries to bring out something different by making it a more emotional and heartfelt closing. It does get a scrap emotional at the cease, simply for the most part it seemed past the numbers and formulaic. I could also tell for the offset time that Donnie Yen is getting quondam physically. This is a action packed movie, simply three fights stands out the most. Information technology'due south where Ip Homo fights the Thai boxer, Mike Tyson and when he fights his Wing Chun rival. The most disappointing part about this movie though is that there is almost no master to disciple human relationship betwixt Ip Man and Bruce Lee. Information technology'due south more like a cameo appearance then anything else. Which I remember they did intentionally because they didn't want Bruce Lee to outshine Ip Man because he is suppose to be the star of this movie. I hateful let'southward be honest here, one of the chief reason why Ip Human became a popular legend was because he was Bruce Lee'due south kung-fu master. Overall, this is a alright watch but nil grand. If there is a 4th Ip Human flick in the future, it should be similar the pic "Creed".

oasis't felt this style almost a martial artist since the GOAT jackie chan

Not simply do i see donnie yen every bit super talented, both every bit a fighter and as an actor, simply i have basically grown to honey him. he's charismatic and likable. and specially in this function, he exemplifies the proper human being existence in and then many ways. i look up to this fictional character.

on to the movie... the fight scenes go on to exist elite, lots of absurd new innovative moves and great means of directing the fight scenes. the story was decent. there were some questionable parts, but overall very enjoyable with an emotional dial. (two viewings, 7/half-dozen/2020)

'IP Man two' is a much ameliorate movie, but this one isn't bad.

'IP MAN iii': Three and a Half Stars (Out of Five)

Martial arts biopic sequel, to 2008's 'IP MAN' and 2010'due south 'IP MAN 2'. All three films chronicle the life of legendary grandmaster Yip Human being (likewise known as Ip Man); who is famous for introducing the martial art Wing Chun, to China (and the world). This installment was once once more directed by Wilson Yip (who besides helmed both other movies); and information technology was written by Edmond Wong, Tai-Li Chan and Lai-yin Leung (Wong and Chan also co-wrote the starting time two flicks). Donnie Yen also returns to play the title role (for the third fourth dimension). The moving picture too features Jin Zhang, Lynn Hung, Mike Tyson and Kwok-Kwan Chan (as Bruce Lee). Chan also played Lee in the 2008 Tv series 'THE Legend OF BRUCE LEE', and a 2010 film (of the same proper noun). 'IP Man three' is definitely non as good as information technology's predecessor (which many consider even better than the original film), just it is a fun martial arts flick.

The story, this time, deals with a ruthless American belongings developer, named Frank (Tyson); who's trying to gain command of a Hong Kong schoolhouse, in 1959, that Ip Man's son attends. Ip (Yen), of course, comes to the school's defence. He also must deal with his wife (Hung) condign sick, with stomach cancer, and a new Fly Chun grandmaster challenger (Zhang). A young martial arts student, named Bruce Lee (Chan), also wants Ip to train him.

The picture show has some pretty impressive martial arts fight scenes; I also especially enjoyed the boxing between Donnie Yen and Mike Tyson. Tyson really makes a good menacing villain; considering he didn't take to say much (that was a very wise move, of the filmmakers). Other than the action, the motion picture doesn't have a lot to offer; I don't experience like I actually learned much about Ip Man, and the story is kind of a mess. 'IP MAN two' is a much better flick, but this one isn't bad.

elevator scene is unforgettable

Yes, I do "become" that the 3rd entry is intended to be more than spiritual and more metaphysical and less exploitative.

No problem.

But, that said, there a fight scene in an lift which will have even the virtually jaded viewer standing up because of the sheer exhilaration of the moves. And is worth the cost of access.

Just as Matt Damon seems destined to be the ultimate Jason Bourne, fans all over the planet accept voted with their wallets and proclaimed Donnie the ultimate Ip Man. He does not disappoint. Cool equally ever, I never become tired of watching his punches speed up at the cease of a fight (which is how the viewer knows that maybe, possibly, he is getting just a niggling annoyed.) Every bit a token of my respect for this film, I will not mention the functioning of Mike Tyson. Which takes more self-restraint than you lot realize.

A tiny bit tiresome here and there, but a wonderful film overall and highly recommended.

An Ineffective & Underwhelming Conclusion Of Ip Man Saga.

Even though it is no lucifer to the original, the 3rd & final instalment in Wilson Yip's Ip Human being series brings some welcome improvements over the second affiliate for its action choreography returns to the more grounded land of the kickoff characteristic withal the movie as a whole fails to offer a compelling story and is muddled with dull subplots.

Set in Hong Kong during the late 1950s, Ip Homo three follows the legendary Wing Chun grandmaster every bit his peaceful life is disturbed one time once more when a group of thugs working for a holding programmer attempt to learn the land that belongs to a local school. Meanwhile, another guy with impressive Wing Chun skills rapidly rises through the ranks & challenges Ip Human for the championship of Grandmaster.

Directed past Wilson Yip, Ip Human being 3 does up the action segments without exaggerating it but it fails to duplicate the amazing balance that the original exhibited in all departments from outset to end. What's fifty-fifty more infuriating is that despite being top-billed in promotional materials, Mike Tyson's character is pretty much sidelined as the plot tries to build up a rivalry between Ip Man & someone nobody gives a damn nigh.

Some other waste material of opportunity was the graphic symbol of Bruce Lee who'south present in the film for merely a couple of scenes & serves every bit comic relief. The drama is exaggerating at times, its humor falls apartment for the virtually office, and the finale is quite boring & predictable despite the exhilarating exhibition of martial arts information technology has in store. The look & feel of the picture in sync with its predecessors only editing & music aspects neglect to enhance the experience.

Coming to the performances, Donnie Yen reprises his role of Ip Man for the last time (possibly) just since the writers failed to give him anything new to work with, his operation is more or less the same as before. Zhang Jin delivers the best work for his character'south arc is fully realised & properly defined. Tyson fails to convince every bit another character but his stand up-off with Ip Man is one highlight for sure. Danny Chan equally Bruce Lee is under-utilised while Lynn Hun does well as Ip Homo'southward wife.

On an overall scale, Ip Man 3 had all the resources to put upward a spectacular action extravaganza but what it packs in the final product is much different from what its trailers promised. While the action choreography is commendable, it unfortunately doesn't amount to much in the end for there isn't anything personal at stake in those sequences. People looking for nothing but but martial arts action will exist enthralled in sufficient doses but other than that, Ip Human being 3 is an underwhelming & ineffective determination of Wilson Yip'due south Ip Homo saga.

As always, the fight choreography was great.

Something different...

"Yip Man 3" is a Biography - Drama movie and the third movie of the Yip Man saga in which nosotros spotter Ip Homo defending some locals from a gangster grouping which want to take a local school by force.

If you lot have already watched the ii previous Yip Man movies then I believe that y'all will exist disappointed by it. In my stance "Yip Human iii" is a very practiced movie with many subconscious details laying all over it only it's very different from the previous ii movies and this is its disadvantage. Many people expected it to exist just another Yip Man motion picture in which there volition by many fights and nothing more. Well, this motion-picture show is something more than than this and it would be ameliorate for you to be prepared for it before watching it.

And so-so finale

Dissimilar the previous Ip Man instalments, the story of this film felt a little too contrived. While the previous films had a grounded historical feel, this i was more than like a typical melodramatic Asian movie plot with one-dimensional gangster villains, a experience-good story arc and some cheap "think of the children!" elements. To be honest, it was not bad. Information technology but did not fit in well with its predecessors.

It gets closer to the legend's personal life.

A few movies about Yip Man were made in the past, but Donnie Yen's 2008 version rewrote the history. Because the craze about martial arts in the concluding two decades and of course digital world made it to reach every corner of the world. Followed by a sequel and its massive hit, and then came many unofficial versions to this series that fix in a dissimilar timeline of the martial art fable's life.

With this picture, the narration gets lots closer to tell the personal life of Yip Man. But in the first half, similar the previous two films, focused on the social effect. Yip Human is fighting for the children'southward pedagogy, when a real estate tycoon plans to replace the school edifice to a commercial complex. That's information technology, later on the story begins to take us to the random events like a human who'southward hungry for the best fighter in the town title who finish upwards challenging Yip Man to face him. From there, information technology's all nigh Yip Man and his ill wife where the movie switches from action mode to sentimental.

That'southward not what we expected from a human being who'south famous for his martial fine art. Surprisingly, this different approach in storytelling was refreshing. Saving schoolhouse, the clash for the championship and ill wife, so the overall movie was like had iii episodes and each dealt on a different motive. Being a biopic and besides a martial art moving picture, it exploited the theme fairly.

I can't say Mike Tyson'due south acting was so good considering it was weird him to speak Cantonese. He was in a small-scale role, only his presence was a big boost for the movie. If nosotros come across him in an action pic, then we all know what to expect and information technology did not fail to fulfill our wish.

"There's nothing more important than the beloved of those by your side."

The stunts were not as adept as the previous two films and they were too brusque likewise, but technically looked so perfect, especially locking horns between Tyson and Donnie Yen was like head-to-caput confrontation between Hollywood and Hong Kong. The other reason to shorten stunts in the moving-picture show was to get closer to the legend's personal life. After the survival and fighting the foreign forces, now the time to focus on his own life issues.

The first two films were breathtaking, no one can doubt that. I don't know why it took so long for this third movie, but information technology still worked. All the same not the best in the trilogy, only remained very close to them with unlike storyline and activity sequences. I was disappointed for not continuing from where information technology ended in the 2nd office. I mean the story has a clean flow, but not what I expected, like, I wanted Bruce Lee and the grand-master coming together.

Actually, I never expected the third installment, I considered it was ane of the all-time duologies y'all could find in world movie theater. Only I'm happy they made this one and I'one thousand very much sure there will be fourth. So at least I can expect the Bruce Lee's role in the Yip Homo'southward life story. I was waiting for that from a very long and I believe it won't let me down this time. All the above, I'm looking for the official announcement.

Some skillful fight scenes, OK script

Mike Tyson wishes he was that skilful once more, but the movie wouldn't be any adept with out him. Sure Yip Human being was a existent martial arts master, but past the fourth dimension they finished Function 2, I was sure that there was zip else to his life.

Yet, writers make upwardly crap and will turn reality in to fantasy.

There isn't much more to the script to be thrilled. The fight scenes have tons of cuts and wearisome move to make things look exciting, but the choreographing is over dubbed. They really put too much in to the editing rather than having real fights.

Xiaolongbao! Writing was similar mixing wonton soup with soursop

Was this 2 movies mashed together as ane, or did Mike Tyson pay large bucks terminal infinitesimal to exist added to the script? The story merely didn't make sense. Nevertheless and every bit always, splendid choreography, directing and acting. I but wish the writing was tighter without the plot and technical issues.

this could've been the best of the bunch...

The marriage stuff here is the well-nigh emotionally powerful of the franchise. Instead of inexpensive sentiment, at that place's strong direction & potent performances. The lift fight represents Ip Human's last opportunity to defend his wife against something he has power over. Otherwise, unfortunately, the movie is way overstuffed: schoolhouse quarrels, gang fights, grandmaster competition, Mike Tyson. Selection one of those to subplot the wife's cancer boxing, & this could've been the best of the bunch.

Ii or even more completely separate movies mushed together

The third installment in the Ip Man franchise brings dorsum Donnie Yen every bit the eponymous master of Wing Chun. This fourth dimension he has to deal with an unscrupulous belongings developer and, as an almost completely separate story element, a threat against his legitimacy every bit a practitioner of Fly Chun manner of kung fu. Oh, and Bruce Lee besides makes an appearance. Because why not.

Taken separately, each of these story elements seem fine. It'due south a fleck odd to come across Mike Tyson of all people face off confronting Donnie Yen, but I'yard down with it. A rival Wing Chun practitioner would also be something interesting to focus on. Every bit would Ip Homo's human relationship with his most well-known and arguably greatest student.

Instead we get all 3 and it feels disjointed. None of these elements are given plenty room to shine and some of them are dropped towards the end so that the movie can focus on the other. Which makes the viewer think: "Wait? That'due south information technology? That'due south the resolution to that disharmonize?"

It'south not a bad film. The fight scenes are still superb and Donnie Yen shines in the lead role. I also like that the film explores his human relationship with his wife a scrap more. That storyline evoked the almost feelings in me out of all iv or more of them.

If you lot've liked the previous two, you'll probably like this one just fine, but it'due south easily my least favourite of the iii.

Everybody Wing Chun tonight!

Warning: Spoilers

What'due south really awesome about the Ip Human being saga is non only is information technology a bang-up set of Kung fu flicks, which the third installment totally is. Donne Yen, brings some ill fast punching action to the table. At the aforementioned time, it's profoundly dramatic.

The plot is simple. Ip Man proves to be as great of a father as he is a marshal artist when he gets way too involved in his son's school, by protecting it from a criminal offence lord who wants to tear it down.

Using in a exploitative manner, "Atomic number 26" Mike Tyson plays this crime lord. It's a lot more crawly than it is cheesy, equally the picture makes a scenario of the globe'southward fastest punch going up confronting the earth's most powerful. Though it would have looked better dorsum when Mike was in fighting shape, it's still ane of the coolest moments in Kung fu.

Speaking of cool moments, Ip Human has a hefty load of great battles with a few different forms existence represented. The action was timed out perfectly, not too long, just long plenty to exist epic.

Some other plot in the film is the relationship between Ip Human being and his wife who suffers from cancer. It was surprisingly fulfilling seeing this human relationship flush out in-betwixt the Kung Fu.

It was a sharp looking movie with a lot of wicked fight scenes and well done in the drama department.

One of the rare sequels the does nor diminish the quality of the franchise

Ii TITANS FACE OFF

Warning: Spoilers

The Ip Man series continues with this film which was promoted as having one major item folks would want to see: Donnie Yen vs Mike Tyson. It didn't matter that Tyson has a small role here, that was something people were interested in seeing. Fortunately the fight sequence betwixt the two delivers the goods and last more than a minute or two and Tyson holds up his performance quite well. But on to the story.

The year is now 1959 and Ip Man'due south school is well established. And so much so that a cocky young fighter comes in wanting to be trained. Demonstrating his speed and agility, Ip Man does nothing more than open the door for him and watch him walk out. The pupil'south name is Bruce Lee.

Ip Man'southward song Ip Ching gets into a fight at schoolhouse and both boys parents are chosen in. Just the Ips show and they then invite the other young boy, Cheung Fung, to their home for dinner. When he shows them his Fly Chun abilities they ask who his instructor is to which the boy replies his father Cheung Can-chi. Tin-chi drives a rickshaw and is saving money to open his own school while raising his son on his own. He picks upwards the boy and thanks them for taking intendance of his son.

Tin-chi is besides making extra money on the side fighting in underground fights organized by Ma King-sang, a triad leader who works for Frank (Tyson). What he doesn't know is that Frank is also a programmer with his eyes set on the piece of land where Ip Human and Can-chi's sons attend schoolhouse. Ma sends his men in that location to disrupt the school simply Ip Man comes along and prevents them from doing then. He and his students then get protectors of the schoolhouse.

When Tin Ngo-san, Ma's mentor, learns of his behavior he goes to confront him with Ip Human. Humiliated in front of his men he attempts to stab Can simply Ip Man prevents him from killing him. Ip Human'due south friend Fat Po the police officeholder shows and breaks things up. Seeking revenge Ma hires Tin-chi to impale Tin Ngo-san. In desperate need of money to open his school he takes the task and beats Ngo-san inside an inch of his life.

Ip Human goes to visit Can having been called to do so. When he arrives he learns that the call never came from him, instead information technology was a ruse to get him abroad from the schoolhouse where Ma and his gang have kidnapped a bunch of the children including Ip Chin and Cheung Fung. Ip Man goes to the docks where Ma told him to just to find him threatening to kill his son and sell the rest into slavery. Cheung Tin-chi also shows but Ma gives him his son and tells him to leave. Ma's men assail and Ip does well against them, doing more so when Can-chi returns to assist. All seems lost when Fatty Po and his men make it to break things upwards.

At habitation Ip Human being learns that his long loving married woman has been diagnosed with cancer. Returning abode after getting her medicine Ip is attacked by a Thai boxer hired by Frank to take him out. Instead Ip takes on the boxer and finished the fight in quick time. Fatty Po tells him the man was sent past Frank and Ip decides to confront Frank in his office. Frank gives him a run a risk. If he can remain standing afterward fighting him for three minutes he will back off of the school. The clock starts, the two spar back and forth and when the timer rings, Ip Man has survived and Frank honors his hope.

All would seem to cease her but information technology doesn't. Cheung Tin-chi has opened his school but still needs students. To proceeds attending for his grade of Wing Chun he challenges Ip Homo to a match. With his wife so close to death Ip Man turns down the match, instead learning how to dance similar his wife always wanted and taught by young dance teacher Bruce Lee.

When she learns that Ip Human turned down the match to spend time with her, his wife contacts Cheung Tin-chi and she asking a rematch. He agrees and the two face up off for the match that and then many were waiting to see.

It seems that these movies always follow a pattern of culminating in a terminal fight and that's fine. With each film they attempt to outdo the previous film and they accept achieved that. This time around it also led to a sequel of sorts involving Cheung Tin can-chi in a film of his own.

Ane once again the combination of history and story meld hither quite well, perhaps not quite also as in the previous two efforts. This fourth dimension around it feels less nearly the personal story of Ip Human and more than well-nigh what was transpiring in Hong Kong at the time. It still makes for an entertaining film that holds your interest from start to finish. Information technology also finally brings Bruce Lee into the story, returning to him at the end and what was meant by the open door.

Made in 2015, seven years later on the first film, Donnie Yen shows no signs of crumbling. He moves with the same speed here that he did then. Some will claim that this is due to stunt men but my judge is that most of what you see on screen is indeed Yen. My biggest wish would exist to encounter him making more than mainstream movies hither in united states of america simply he seems content to make movies in Cathay. In the end it doesn't affair as no matter where he makes film they are ever enjoyable and worth watching.

Donnie Yen achieves martial arts perfection

I have seen every Donnie Yen picture and thousands of others in the martial arts genre plus I take practiced martial arts for over xxx years (last fourth dimension I counted - at a certain age we all stop counting the years.) This movie is his masterpiece. And speaking of years, at age 51, it is unlikely he will ever exceed what he just put on pic. Oddly, the Wing Chun manner of martial arts came tardily in his career. His female parent taught him Tai Chi. This was followed by karate, wushu, tae kwan do and then break dancing and playing the piano. He likewise managed to chief judo, muay thai and jiu-jitsu. All that certainly makes him master of mixed martial arts. Though I am rating the flick a x information technology is really the average of an viii for the story and edit and a twelve for the fights. The picture show did not actually offset off with a bang or a claw. I felt the Bruce Lee scenes were non needed and rather silly. In that location were other problems with pacing. I would have liked more than character development for Cheung Tin-Chi and hope at that place may exist a sequel for that character. Other than that, give thanks you Donnie Yen.

At least the activeness is still expert

The first and second Ip Human movies certainly weren't masterpieces, only they did have solid/followable plots with a satisfying, logical progression, all supporting very proficient action scenes.

This third instalment maintains the very practiced activeness scenes but takes a bit of a nosedive when it comes to plot, having about two-3 film'southward worth of narrative crammed into the ane movie. I didn't buy the rivalry between Ip Man and the main villain. Too, information technology was unclear why in one scene near the cease Ip Human seemed okay with using deadly weapons, despite refraining from using them in the series up until that point. Only like I said, the activeness is all the same a good deal of fun, and I am looking forward to seeing how the series concludes in Ip Man 4.

'Ip Man iii' goes for the heart every bit much as the the jugular in an heady and unexpectedly moving finish

Alarm: Spoilers

5 years and more than a few faux starts later, Donnie Yen reprises his iconic role as the revered Wing Chun grandmaster Ip Man. Despite an epilogue in 'Ip Man 2' teasing the appearance of Bruce Lee in this firsthand sequel, those expecting the legendary movie star to make more than a glorified cameo will undoubtedly be disappointed; whether because of copyright reasons or otherwise, Danny Chan (who first fabricated skilful of his concrete resemblance to the belatedly Lee in the TV serial 'The Legend of Bruce Lee') only appears twice in the whole motion-picture show – once, at the start to ask Ip Homo to exist his master and twice, in the center to teach Ip Human being to dance cha-cha in exchange for some kung fu preparation.

Instead, 'Ip Homo 3' finds the titular Master Ip rise upwards to protect the main, staff and children (including his own younger son Ip Chun) of an simple schoolhouse from a ruthless property developer Frank (Mike Tyson), while preserving his ain reputation under challenge from an aggressive beau practitioner Cheung Tin Chi (Max Zhang). Besides the much touted mano-a-mano fight with Tyson, the old sees Principal Ip cross paths with the cocky gangster Ma Rex Sang (Patrick Tam), an ex-disciple of Master Tin (veteran martial arts actor Bryan Leung Ka-yan) who has no qualms kidnapping children in order to forcefulness the principal'due south hand. The latter however is more Master Ip's antagonist by circumstance than by option; in social club to prove his name in an already crowded field of martial arts masters tacitly competing against each other for name, fame and disciples, Tin Chi touts his technique equally the authentic Wing Chun and openly challenges Chief Ip to a competition in club to emerge from the latter's long illustrious shadow.

There are at least four practiced to great fights here – the beginning at the Western Spousal relationship shipyard where Male monarch Sang and his gang hang out, the second between Primary Ip and a Muay Thai kickboxer (played by Simon Kuke of Tony Jaa'southward stunt team) sent by Frankie to ambush the old, the third between Master Ip and Tyson's Frankie himself, and the last just not least betwixt Primary Ip and Can Chi at the latter's school. Like its predecessors, the best fights here are substantially two- handers between Donnie Yen and a worthy martial arts thespian, so it isn't surprising that out of the same four, it is the latter iii that stand out. Of particular note, Yen's duel with Kuke has an added thrill of taking place inside the very confined quarters of a lift before moving on to a narrow stairwell; while Yen and Tyson's one-on-ane accept the added urgency of time (i.east. within iii minutes) and Yen's finale with Zhang the added novelty of poles and knives in addition to pure fists.

In Sammo Hung'southward place, it is the hugely respected Yuen Wo-ping who is taking over as activeness director here, and the latter opts for less showy fix-pieces that lack the sheer adrenaline rush of those in the first two movies but nonetheless are note-worthy for being grounded in realism. Yes, there is no equivalent of the tabletop fight betwixt Yen and Hung in 'Ip Man 2', which though thrilling to watch was too criticised for beingness also heavily reliant on wirework and a suspension of disbelief; rather, Yuen assembles a supporting cast with actual kung fu abilities and talent – if not brute force (nosotros're talking about you lot, Tyson) – to spar with Yen and leaves the balance up to the performers' speed, agility, strength and skill. If there was the ambition of topping the earlier films, there is no hint of that hither, and nosotros suspect those who are only here for the action volition probably come off a tad disappointed that there is no one standout moment of utter exhilaration that defines the entire motion picture.

All the same 'Ip Human 3' is all the better for not trying to improve its own predecessors; instead, it finds its own rhythm by existence a touching portrayal of marital beloved and devotion between Principal Ip and his wife Cheung Fly Sing (Lynn Xiong). More than the earlier films, Wing Sing's supporting role is especially poignant here, as her character discovers from a persistent pain in her belly that she is in the late stages of cancer. A good office of the heart human action of 'Ip Man 3' is composed of intimate scenes between Primary Ip and Fly Sing as they struggle to come up to terms with the latter'southward frailty and impending fate, and what emerges in these quieter moments is a touching portrait of Ip Man's profound love for his wife above all else, retreating into seclusion from the wider martial arts fraternity even as his reputation is on the line then as to be past her bedside day subsequently day.

As always, it is Yen who anchors the film from kickoff to finish with his nuanced portrayal of Main Ip. A passionate speech he makes to Kent Cheng'due south Sergeant 'Fatty' Po about not bowing to his corrupt Western superior would have sounded sanctimonious if not for Yen's expert under-playing; merely more than his character'southward dignity or accolade this time round, Yen delineation of Primary Ip's equanimity amidst his grief at his wife's debilitating country is specially moving.

That is no small measure credit to its managing director Wilson Yip likewise as its trio of writers (namely, producer Raymond Wong's son Edmond Wong, Chan Tai-li and Leung Lai-yin), who nicely remainder the action- oriented setpieces with a solid and grounded character study congenital upon the personal existent-life struggles of their titular character. Oh aye, it may not boast the most incredible fight scenes of the trilogy, merely in spirit and in tone, it is a beautiful and fitting conclusion to quite maybe the most outstanding martial arts series of recent time.

A more than deliberate and personal approach to the titular character, it is a proper send off for Ip Man.

Donnie Yen is 1 of the near consequent action stars, having resume that spans decades and while other colossal names such as Jet Li or Jackie Chan has slowed downward, he is yet going strong. This, ironically, tin also work against him since he already has played in two Ip Man films and with more works depicting the famous graphic symbol, this theme can become overly used. Luckily, Ip Homo 3 shifts into a more individual direction while still equipped with the lighting speed blows.

The story has multiple subplots, ranging from usual the thug encounter to problems on Ip Human being'due south household. There'southward notwithstanding glimpse of the nationalism angle from the get-go two movies, although fortunately not as prevalent. Use of jingoism has go stale and information technology'd make a anticipated vilified antagonist. This fourth dimension around the script has more than residue and modesty, information technology's intended to be accessible for wider range of audience.

Every bit far equally interim goes, leads Donnie Yen and Lynn Hung perform well. This is a family oriented relationship with drama or romance taking the secondary part. Its use of many subplots, thus a larger number of antagonists, tin exist distracting at times. Some of the dialogues audio rather too overblown for theatrical outcome, although luckily they're not dominant plenty to be disrupting.

Ip Man as well attracts a certain expectation for fight scenes, ane which is sufficiently delivered here. Information technology uses less wire choreography and opts for a faster close quarter gainsay. The cinematography involved is very precise, showing a vast experience and understanding of clashing fists and spatial sensation for the dance. This makes every run across unique, from the all-out brawl in the dock, skirmish in small stores or apartments to the occasional high octane duels. A nod goes to the scene with Mike Tyson in its entire fanservice splendor.

The distinct combat choreography, which still looks fast and fresh, will satisfy action fans, nonetheless the humble perspective gives a hearty humane side for the larger-than-life character.

Not all that great as a movie in my opinion, just some good fight scenes still

At this point the "plot" doesn't really make sense and then this is but a succession of fight scenes, some of them being extremely well done. The style is quite different considering Yuen Woo Ping took over Sammo Hung as fight director and while both equally bully, the change is pretty obvious. There are still some memorable moments; the Thai fighter and Mike Tyson scenes immediately become classic fights. As with the previous one, they really should have gotten some white actors who tin really act...
